INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON
LEADERSHIP IN THE SERVICE ECONOMY

‘Bridging Innovation and Transformation in Leadership Across Sectors’

Organiser: National Higher Education Research Institute, Universiti Sains Malaysia (IPPTN USM) and Department of Applied Social Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)

Date: 5 May 2026 (Tuesday)
Time: 8.00 am to 5.00 pm
Venue: Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA

Background

Malaysia has firmly transitioned into a service-led economy, with the services sector contributing over 50% of GDP and driving employment, innovation, and national competitiveness. Aligned with the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (RMK-13) and the aspirations of Ekonomi MADANI, the service economy plays a central role in promoting inclusive growth, sustainability, and improved well-being for the rakyat.

As service-based institutions navigate increasing complexity, digital disruption, and global competition, leadership has emerged as a critical enabler of transformation. Today’s leaders must go beyond traditional management by embracing innovation, leveraging emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), managing multi-generational and culturally diverse workforces, strengthening service delivery systems, and fostering cross-sector collaboration.

This conference provides a timely platform to explore future-ready leadership for the service economy, bringing together policymakers, academics, industry leaders, and practitioners to exchange insights, best practices, and collaborative solutions that support sustainable and human-centred development.
